e- House Construction Progress

This week we completed the insulation and sheathing of our model e-House. The insulation used is an eco-friendly spray foam insulation, specifically made to be extremely efficient and non-toxic.

Our modules were lifted on to large steel benches, so that the spray foam installation technician could coat the floor. Here you can see the technician in his suit applying a generous amount of insulation underneath our container.

The applicator then covers the walls of the container, spraying the foam in between the studs. The foam is sprayed on as a liquid, and quickly expands to fill in any gaps, making for an airtight insulation barrier. This is especially important for maintaining energy efficiency.

As the day ends, the crew finishes by shaving down any parts of the foam that were over-sprayed or stick out past the framing members. This is to ensure that there are no issues covering up the wall. Our modules are ready to resume construction!

The following morning, our modules are back on the ground and the exterior sheathing is applied. The crew will cover the entire exterior of the house with high quality plywood before installing the windows.

They start by covering the small areas, and quickly move to the larger walls.

Soon, the exterior walls are completely covered in sheathing.

Check back with us next week as we install the windows, and get ready to install the interior drywall and finishes!
